Fernandinho's red card appeal has been rejected by the FA... and Manchester City midfielder will now serve a a four-match suspension

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho will serve a four-match ban after his appeal against a red card was rejected.

The Brazilian was dismissed in the first-half of City's 2-1 victory over Burnley on Monday for a reckless lunge on the visitors' Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

A Football Association spokesman confirmed Fernandinho would sit out four matches instead of three as it was his second straight red card of the season.

He said: 'Fernandinho will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect after his claim of wrongful dismissal claim was rejected today following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
