Pressure was growing on the Premier League last night to perform a U-turn and allow their clubs to change strips to support a homelessness charity.
MailOnline revealed on Tuesday that Shelter want teams playing at home on December 26 and 27 to play in their away kits to raise awareness and funds. Some of the clubs approached the top flight to ask for permission to do that, and were stunned when their requests were rejected.
The Premier League said that it would represent a breach of their regulations and would need a rule change.
There was widespread outrage and Gary Neville, the former Manchester United defender, was among many who hit out.
