The Premier League are set to appoint investment banker Gary Hoffman as their new chairman, Sportsmail can reveal.
The Coventry City fan is currently chairman of Hastings Insurance and has almost 40 years' experience in banking, including at Barclays, the Coventry Building Society and Northern Rock, being credited with steering the latter institution through the chaos of the 2008 financial crisis which involved them securing a government bailout.
Hoffman's impending appointment follows a global search by the Premier League and is due to be ratified by the 20 clubs on Friday.
He will start work at the Premier League at a crucial time with the top flight grappling with the sporting shutdown and the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic which has major implications for its clubs.
