Burnley refused a request from Luton to switch the newly promoted club’s first Premier League home game from Kenilworth Road to Turf Moor with the result that it has now been postponed.
The Premier League announced the postponement of the game that was due to take place on 19 August earlier today, but omitted to mention that it followed the failure of both clubs to agree to reversing the fixture.
Luton’s ability to begin their first top-flight campaign in over 30 years has been in doubt since they secured promotion from the Championship with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Coventry in May as major ground improvements are needed to comply with the Premier League's minimum standards.
