ECB won't add Phil Salt to central contract list despite sublime T20 form... but batter could be set for IPL deal after being placed on standby

Phil Salt's exceptional form for England in the Twenty20s in the West Indies will not see him handed a back-dated central contract. But the Lancashire batter could be in the money after being placed on standby for the Indian Premier League.

Salt blasted 331 runs in the T20 series, including an England record 119. However, there is no scope within the ECB system to add to the 29 contracts awarded in October – the governing body have used up their entire wages budget.

The lower end of the ECB’s central contract pay scale is £125,000.
