Stoke City will try to sign a goalkeeper on short-term loan as cover for Jack Butland, with Derby County's Lee Grant in the frame to become Shay Given's understudy.
After recovering from a broken ankle suffered on England duty, Butland injured the same ankle during a training session earlier this month.
He has missed each of Stoke's opening three Premier League games, with Given starting the draw at Middlesbrough and defeats by Manchester City and Everton.
Grant, who only features on the bench for Derby due to Scott Carson being the club's No 1, is undergoing a medical.
