David Moyes resigns as Sunderland manager after one season in charge of the Black Cats

David Moyes has quit as manager of Sunderland after the club were relegated from the Premier League in his first season in charge.

The Black Cats finished the campaign 16 points adrift of safety and had not won at the Stadium of Light since before Christmas.

Supporters turned on Moyes last month and called for him to go. The former Everton and Manchester United boss said he would not be forced out by fans and would instead listen to owner Ellis Short’s plans for next season before deciding on his future.
