Cristiano Ronaldo will contest his FA improper conduct charge for slapping a phone out of a 14-year-old Everton fan's hand, says Man United boss Erik ten Hag, with the Portuguese star potentially facing a ban

Cristiano Ronaldo will contest his FA charge for slapping a mobile phone out of the hand of a teenage fan, says Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo was charged last month with a breach of FA Rule E3 relating to improper and/or violent conduct following the incident after United's defeat at Goodison Park in April.

United issued a statement at the time saying the club would support Ronaldo in his response, and Ten Hag confirmed on Wednesday: 'We spoke about that. He will not accept it.'

A FA disciplinary panel would have convened regardless of Ronaldo's response because it has been deemed a non-standard case.
