We did not find out if Alexis Mac Allister can do it on a cold, damp, December night at Charlton in the Carabao Cup. Turns out his Brighton team-mates could not in his absence.
Mac Allister is still away celebrating his World Cup triumph – champagne tastes nicer than Carabao in his defence – and without the Argentinian midfielder, Brighton laboured to a 0-0 draw with League One Charlton.
The Premier League side lost the subsequent penalty shootout 4-3, Brighton missing four of the seven spot-kicks they took in front of the away fans, including one by Solly March which would have won them the tie.
