Burnley manager Vincent Kompany rules Lyle Foster out of going to the Africa Cup of Nations as the striker continues mental health treatment, despite being named in South Africa's provisional squad for the tournament

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has ruled out striker Lyle Foster from going to the Africa Cup of Nations as he continues to work on his mental health.

South Africa have named Foster in their provisional 50-man squad for AFCON which starts in Ivory Coast on January 13.

But Kompany said on Thursday the 23-year-old would not be able to take part in the tournament.

Foster’s last Premier League appearance for Burnley was on October 21 and it was revealed the following month he’d be taking an indefinite break from football to have specialist treatment for his mental wellbeing.
