BT Sport prepared to ditch Premier League TV rights after subscriber base falls by 5,000 ahead of auction

BT Sport is preparing to lose the rights to show live Premier League football after losing thousands of viewers.

BT chief executive Gavin Patterson admitted on Friday the firm was putting in place a 'Plan B' after viewer numbers dived by 5,000.

The fall is a hammer blow to BT's sports channels, which had been seeking fast growth after investing billions in live rights to the Premier League, Champions League and the Ashes in Australia.
