Brighton picked up a crucial second win of the season, beating fellow promoted side Newcastle thanks to Tomer Hemed's acrobatic finish.
After both sides had created but wasted good chances in the first half, Hemed was quickest to react to Dale Stephens' header across goal and hooked the ball past Rob Elliot only six minutes after the restart.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez turned to his bench as the visitors sought a way back into the game, introducing the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle. But they found no rewards for their efforts as Brighton picked up their second win of the season.
