Five recent leaders of the FA are calling on the Government to appoint a regulator to carry out wholesale reform of English football's ruling body.
The drastic measure has been proposed in a letter signed by three former chairmen — Lord Triesman, David Bernstein and Greg Dyke — and two former chief executives, David Davies and Alex Horne. The move is born of frustration at the FA Council continually blocking changes to their outdated structure.
The strongly-worded letter sent to Damian Collins MP, chairman of the DCMS select committee, also blasts the Premier League for their unhealthy domination of English football through financial might.
