Belgium's leading virologist fires warning to European football ahead of crunch meeting next week

UEFA is coming under mounting pressure to cancel all leagues across Europe and keep football on pause until the coronavirus pandemic has completely passed.

Belgium is at the forefront of a growing number of nations in favour of ending the 2019-20 season straight away and they intend to lobby UEFA at a showdown meeting next Thursday.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has always maintained his wish to start up domestic leagues across the continent as soon as possible with the aim of concluding them by early August.

That would allow the Champions League and the Europa League to be completed by the end of that month, potentially in a shortened format and almost certainly behind closed doors.
