Manchester City had been considered favourites after they also expressed an interest in the 15-year-old but are understood to have cooled their pursuit in the past week.
Barcelona have offered the promising attacking midfielder new terms in the hope of convincing him to remain in Spain ahead of him turning 16 on April 12.
The Spaniard is eligible to move to a new club when he turns 16 in just three days time.
If he decides to leave Barcelona's academy, he will join several other youngsters who have chosen to progress elsewhere.
