Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League on penalties at the Emirates on Thursday, as Sporting Lisbon advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to a 46-yard stunner from Pedro Goncalves.
The Portuguese midfielder cancelled out Granit Xhaka's opener for the Gunners in the first half with an audacious shot from distance, catching Aaron Ramsdale way off his line just after the hour mark.
Although the Premier League leaders pushed and probed for a winner, Sporting held on for penalties and fired home every spot-kick in the shootout, winning 5-3 after capitalising on Gabriel Martinelli's miss from 12 yards.
