After seeing the Matildas exit the Women's World Cup at the Round of 16 stage, former Socceroo Robbie Slater has slammed Australia's performance in France, declaring it 'an absolute fail'.
Heading into France ranked sixth in the world, the green and gold struggled from the outset losing their opening match to Italy before labouring to wins over Brazil and Jamaica.
The Matildas then lost on penalties to Norway in the knockout stages with Slater adamant Australia fell well short of expectations.
