Sterling “Scoot” Henderson’s first NBA season has been widely regarded as a disappointment. Not because he’s not an NBA player, but because collective expectation wasn’t met.
The Portland Trail Blazers point guard arrived in Oregon under unique circumstances. Typically, top three draft picks are celebrated and praised with only enthusiasm and hope greeting them throughout their initial offseason.
But Henderson’s very drafting initiated pandemonium, which transferred his deserved limelight to Damian Lillard’s dissatisfaction with the only NBA franchise he’d ever known.
Some had hoped that Henderson would quickly be moved for a difference-making player to placate Lillard.
