A couple of years ago, the Portland Trail Blazers were simultaneously thrilled and mildly disappointed as they received the third overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft via the lottery system. That high selection would allow them to take point guard Scoot Henderson, still developing in his second season with the squad. That was the thrilling part. But Portland missed out on the biggest prize of that draft, first-overall pick Victor Wembanyama, who went to the San Antonio Spurs.
