It’s imperative that the Portland Trail Blazers convince Derrick Jones Jr. to pick up his player option for the 2021-2022 NBA season. To have him opt out would be to lose an asset for nothing.

If he opts into his contract next season, even if the Blazers wanted to move on from him, they’d be able to use him as a trade chip.

Luckily, DJJ would make a little over $9.7 million if he were to accept his option with the Blazers next year, according to Spotrac.
