The New Orleans Pelicans are finalizing a deal to hire Hall of Famer Joe Dumars as its new president of basketball operations, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
The news comes just one day after the Pelicans fired David Griffin from his role as executive vice president of basketball operations.
Most famously, Dumars won two NBA titles with the Detroit Pistons as a player (1989 and 1990) and then served as the Pistons head basketball executive from 2000-2014. His tenure as an executive in Detroit included winning the executive of the year award in 2003 and the NBA Championship in 2004 (current Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups won Finals MVP during that run).
