The Rio Olympics have been a solid distraction for die-hard Trail Blazers fans who are anxiously awaiting the start of the NBA season. It seems like every four years an obscure Olympic event captures the imagination of American fans. In the winter games I become an arm-chair expert on curling, but this summer – a new sport has risen to the occasion. Team Handball. It is a quirky game that seems hatched out of a P.E. teacher’s dream.
Handball pits two teams made up of seven players (including the goal keeper) against each other. The goal is to advance the ball up the court by passing (or moving three steps at a time) in the hopes of getting an open look to hurl the ball at the opposing teams netted goal.
