Today, Shams Charania of the Athletic reported that the National Basketball Association has told teams of an update to the salary cap. According to Charania, the salary cap will remain unchanged in 2019-20, and will decrease by $2 million in 2020-21. The projected salary cap for 2019-20 is about $8 million higher than the salary cap for 2018-19.
Given that this is the salary cap and tax level situation most teams have been preparing for, it is unlikely to contribute to significant change during free agency this summer. The Portland Trail Blazers have $126 million in guaranteed salaries on the books, not including Jake Layman, Al-Farouq Aminu, or a first-round draft pick.
