Following Carmelo Anthony’s declaration that he would like to return to the Trail Blazers, star guard CJ McCollum also issued a vote of confidence in regards to the 36-year-old forward’s future in Portland.
In the aftermath of the Blazers’ postseason elimination on Saturday, The Athletic’s Jason Quick recorded McCollum’s comments on the situation surrounding Melo’s upcoming free agency.
“We are thankful to have him,” McCollum said. “Hopefully he can come back next year, but once again, that is above my pay grade. If it was up to me, I would like to play with him for the rest of his career, but I guess that is to be determined.
