Jaylen Hoard joined the Portland Trail Blazers as an undrafted rookie after the 2019 NBA Draft, landing a two-way contract with the team. He split his time during the season between Portland and the G League, where he played with the Texas Legends. Hoard only appeared in 13 regular season games for Portland before play was suspended due to the rise of COVID-19, but he got the opportunity to join the team when the season restarted at the NBA’s Disney World bubble.

He notes that he was spending time in Texas working on his game prior to receiving a call from his agent with the news that Portland wanted him to come to Orlando.
