When the Portland Trail Blazers selected Scoot Henderson with the third overall pick last year, there was plenty of praise around NBA media circles and an expectation among many (if not all) that he’s be on a star trajectory. After a disappointing rookie campaign, those expectations were tempered.
Henderson, now in his second year, is coming off the bench. With just 11.5 points and 5 assists per game with 3.1 turnovers, his statistical production is somewhere between “meh” and “yikes.” On the other hand, watching him play suggests signs of growth: as I wrote in last night’s extended recap of the Blazer’s 114-110 win over the Hawks: “Time after time tonight, Scoot got what he wanted at HIS pace, whether it was finding Banton for three or finding Timelord for a lob.
