Detroit Pistons Fire Head Coach Monty Williams

The Detroit Pistons fired head coach Monty Williams Wednesday morning, just one year into his 6-year, $78 million contract. The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III reports that the decision was made by Pistons owner Tom Gores personally.

The Pistons have hit the reset button on their franchise one year after signing Williams to the lucrative contract. After mixed-at-best results in recent drafts and transactions, Detroit broke the record for consecutive losses this season. They brought in Trajan Langdon as President of Basketball Operations, and gave him freedom to work with the owner and remake the team.
