On July 26, the Portland Trail Blazers acquired Brendan Haywood and Mike Miller from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Neither player is expected to remain in Portland. Haywood’s $10.5M contract is non-guaranteed, so the Trail Blazers will waive him in short order. Miller is owed $2.9M, but will likely negotiate a buyout.
Why the Trail Blazers made this trade
In exchange for allowing the Cavaliers to unload contracts, the Trail Blazers received two future second round picks. Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers owe the Cavaliers a second-rounder in 2019; whichever ends up higher now belongs to the Trail Blazers as a result of this trade.
