Portland Trail Blazers third-year forward Jabari Walker likely delivered the soundbite of preseason practice so far on Monday. Walker, listed at 6-foot-7 himself, couldn’t get over the size of Blazers rookie center Donovan Clingan.
“He has a nickname now, I heard, like Cling Kong or something like that. I get it,” Walker said. “When we do the 2-on-1 fast break, when we go against him, it’s like dang. It feels like it’s a 2-on-2 fast break. He’s really taking up the whole paint.”
Walker’s observation followed a trend found in almost all Blazers players’ first impressions of the 7-foot-2, 280-pound rookie out of UConn.
