We Portlanders are an interesting bunch. We are more accustomed to the rain than most communities. And yet, when summer arrives and the skies go dry, we look upon the rare August rain shower as an extraordinary event. Like an old friend has come traipsing by.
Hello rain, we say. Long time, no see. (Almost as if it doesn’t rain in these parts for eight months out of the year, which it does. Sometimes nine months.)
Thing is, it’s been, like, super hot up here in the Pacific Northwest. And wildfires are raging throughout the region, and the sky has been gray and filled with throat-searing smoke.
