You can't go home again.

Or, rather, a 1,200-pound bronze statue of your likeness isn't welcome in your hometown if you're NBA Championship-winning center and former Portland Trail Blazers legend Bill Walton.

The fine folks over at Deadspin have a roundup of the controversy surrounding the San Diego Airport's refusal to find a permanent home for a Bill Walton statue that was recently proposed to them.

The $200,000 bronze tribute that was funded by a private group features Walton standing tall with open arms along with his bike. One would think this is a perfect piece of art to welcome visitors to the city of San Diego, but the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority group who make decisions on these types of things have turned it down.
