Today’s player parlayed a Summer League stint with the Blazers into a preseason slot, then a two-way contract, and eventually a standard NBA contract — all as a 27-year-old rookie last season. The floor-spacing big will likely enter the season at the back of a crowded center rotation, but he proved he’s a capable contributor if minutes open up.
