Portland Thorns FC captain Christine Sinclair was recognized during today’s The Best FIFA Football Awards show for setting the international goal-scoring record on January 29, 2020.
Her record-setting 185th international goal game in 2020 CONCACAF Woman’s Olympic Qualifying during a two-goal performance against St. Kitts and Nevis. She has since taken her world-record total to 186 goals.
Asked by former France international Laura Georges if she “felt the pressure” to pass United States legend Abby Wambach’s mark, Sinclair said, “I’m not going to lie: I felt the pressure, especially as the record got closer and closer. It was everything that people wanted to talk about.
