MILWAUKIE, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s made a strong push in the second half, outshooting Calgary Foothills FC 8-4, but could not overcome a two-goal deficit in the first half, falling 3-1 at Alder Creek Middle School on Sunday afternoon.
Portland nearly opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the match. Midfielder Foster Langsdorf switched the point of attack to find midfielder Sam Werner making a run down the right side. Werner cut back towards the middle and dribbled into the box, firing a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper.
Foothills FC grabbed the lead with a pair of goals in the 23rd and 38th minutes.
