Thorns Sign Parsons, Angerer to Contract Extensions

The 2016 NWSL Shield-winning Portland Thorns have signed Head Coach Mark Parsons and Director of Goalkeeping Nadine Angerer to contract extensions, the team announced Tuesday.

Parsons, 30, led the Thorns to their best regular season finish, as they won the 2016 NWSL Shield for the league's best regular season record at 12-3-5, 41 points, and was named the 2016 NWSL Coach of the Year. The Thorns began the season on a 12 match unbeaten run, the second longest in league history, and the best home record (8-1-1) and road winning percentage (4-2-4, .600) for the season. The Thorns finished second in the league in scoring with 35 goals, led by Nadia Nadim (9), Christine Sinclair (7) and Tobin Heath (league record 10 assists).
