Major League Soccer has suspended and fined Real Salt Lake forward Juan Manuel Martinez for dangerously fouling Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe in a game on March 19.
Martinez will serve a one-game suspension for the foul.
Martinez took down Nagbe from behind late in stoppage time in the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw after a late-game comeback from the Timbers. Martinez was shown a yellow card for the foul, but many analysts and fans thought he deserved to be shown a red card.
Real Salt Lake was shown two other red cards in the physical game and finished the match with just nine players on the field.
