The Portland Timbers have signed goalkeeper Chris Konopka, giving the club an experienced veteran to back up new No. 1 Jake Gleeson.
Konopka, 31, makes his return to Major League Soccer after spending the first half of 2016 with Scottish side Ross County. A former keeper for Toronto FC from 2013 to 2015, Konopka had his option declined by TFC following the 2015 season and wlent through the league’s re-entry draft with being selected, leaving his rights available.
Konopka claimed the starting job in Toronto from former Timber Joe Bendik for the 2015 season — one that included TFC’s first playoff appearance since joining MLS — and made 21 starts for the side.
