The Portland Timbers have long been linked with Vancouver Whitecaps striker Darren Mattocks, and now they have got their man.
The Timbers announced today that they have acquired Mattocks, 25, from the Whitecaps for Targeted Allocation Money this year and General Allocation Money and an international roster spot next year.
A pacy player with a frightening leaping ability, Mattocks is capable of playing as either a forward or on the wings. Not noted for his defensive prowess, Mattocks seems likely to be an option as a late-game substitute, while competing with players like Jack McInerney and new signee Jack Barmby for spot starts up top or on the wing.
