The Portland Timbers managed a 0-0 draw against the New York Red Bulls today, riding the strong goalkeeping of Jake Gleeson to the shutout.
The first half was a largely futile one, with both teams looking disquieted by early injuries. The injury bug hit the Timbers in just the first minute of the game as Darren Mattocks seemed to roll his ankle while competing for the ball along the touch line. New York were forced to take off center back Gideon Baah in the 22nd minute.
New York mainstay Dax McCarty also took at knock in the first half when he clashed heads with Fanendo Adi while going for a header.
