PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC defeated visiting Western New York Flash 3-2 in front of a sell-out crowd of 21,144 fans at Providence Park on Sunday night.
The Thorns got on the board first in the 27th minute when forward Nadia Nadim earned a penalty kick after she was brought down in the box by the Flash's Jaelene Hinkle. Nadim finished the subsequent penalty into the lower left corner.
Then, in the 37th minute, the Thorns struck again. Nadim tried to send a low pass into the box for Tobin Heath.
