The Portland Thorns announced Friday morning that midfielder Celeste Boureille has been loaned to FC Fleury 91 for the 2021 season. Boureille joins the number of NWSL players who are looking to play abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boureille will play in France’s first division on a short-term loan. FC Fleury 91 was promoted to the first division after winning the second division in 2017. They placed seventh in the 2019–20 season, improving on their ninth-place finish the previous year.
The Thorns signed Boureille in 2016. She has since made 61 appearances. The midfielder started three matches and made five appearances in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup.
