Timbers defender Jorge Villafana has been called up by Dave Sarachan, interim head coach of the US Men’s National Team, as part of the 28-man roster for the upcoming friendlies against England and Italy. He’ll leave directly after Thursday’s Western Conference semifinal to join the rest of the team as they head overseas.
The 29-year-old left back currently has 19 caps and 15 starts, including six appearances in World Cup qualifiers for Russia 2018. Villafana led all USMNT players in caps in 2017, making 15 appearances and becoming just the third USMNT player in the modern era to lead the side in caps during his debut year.
