Portland Timbers are set to secure the signing of former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Taylor is a free agent after ending his 21-year association with Newcastle earlier this summer when his contract expired.
The 30-year-old had been linked with a move to Turkish side Fenebahce but Portland Timbers have moved quickly to bring him to America.
Taylor has held talks and undergone a medical with the reigning MLS Cup champions and he is expected to seal his move to Portland by the end of the week.
