DESERT FRIENDLIES PRESEASON RECAP | New York Red Bulls 2, Portland Timbers 0

The Portland Timbers lost 2-0 to the New York Red Bulls in the opening preseason match of the Desert Friendlies at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. Friday evening.

In a game of three 30-minute periods, Portland fielded three separate XI’s. The Timbers went down 1-0 in the 3rd minute when New York defender Kemar Lawrence whipped a cross in from the left that deflected off of Timbers Gbenga Arokoyo and Rennico Clarke before falling into the back of the net for an own goal.

Goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh made five strong saves in the second period for Portland but in the 61st minute, Portland defender Zarek Valentin was called for a foul in the penalty area.
