PORTLAND, Ore.- In the opening match of Group B in the 2016-2017 CONCACAF Champions League, Diego Valeri scored in the 90th minute to give the Portland Timbers a 2-1 victory over C.D. Dragón Wednesday night at Providence Park. Jack McInerney gave Portland an early lead while Kenroy Howell scored for the visitors in front of 16,268 fans.
McInerney's goal was the culmination of a great team buildup in the 21st minute. Fanendo Adi turned his defender before tapping the ball to Diego Valeri, who one-timed a diagonal pass through the Dragón defense to an unmarked McInerney.
