The Portland Timbers fell 4-2 to Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá outside of San José, Costa Rica on Wednesday night.
The Timbers struck first in the 5th minute when midfielder Diego Valeri finished a low, driven shot off of a give-and-go with forward Fanendo Adi.
Saprissa equalized in the 33rd minute, when midfielder Ulises Segura got a foot on the end of a deflected cross from teammate Daniel Colindres.
In the 45th minute, Saprissa took a 2-1 lead, when midfielder Marvin Angulo finished cooly from the penalty spot after referee Yadel Martínez awarded a penalty kick to the Costa Rican side.
