PORTLAND, Ore. – On a rainy night at Providence Park, the Portland Timbers drew 1-1 with Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. Jack McInerney scored in the second half, but it was not enough for the Timbers to advance to the knockout rounds of CCL play.
McInerney tied the match with a emphatic header from a Jack Barmby corner kick in the 57th minute. The goal was McInerney's eighth in all competitions this season, good for third-most by a Timbers player in 2016.
Saprissa's goal came midway through the first half when Rolando Blackburn headed home a cross in the 24th minute.
