Caitlin Foord Injures Lisfranc Ligament

Caitlin Foord, acquired by the Thorns in January in a blockbuster three-way trade that sent Allie Long to Seattle, has ruptured her lisfranc ligament playing with Sydney FC in the Australian W-League, the Australian international announced via Twitter.

Foord scored the ninth-minute opening goal in Sydney’s semifinal against Newcastle Jets, but was subbed off at halftime after twisting her foot or ankle; a shot of the bench during the second half showed her foot to be badly swollen, but no diagnosis was available at the time.

The lisfranc joint complex is “the bones and ligaments that connect the midfoot and forefoot.
