On Wednesday, the final day of 2016 Algarve Cup action, Canada defeated Brazil 2-1 to win this year's Algarve Cup trophy.
Thorns FC forward Christine Sinclair started and played the full 90 helping the Canadians win the Algarve Cup for the first time in team history.
Meanwhile, in the third-place match, Thorns midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir didn't start for Iceland, but did come on as a critical second-half substitute. Deadlocked at 1-1 after 120 minutes, the match went to penalty kicks. Each team traded five penalty kicks – including a penalty kick conversion by Brynjarsdóttir – before New Zealand missed its sixth and final kick.
