SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Portland dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 51 San Diego in the West Coast Conference women's tennis opener for both schools Friday at the Hogan Tennis Center. The Pilots fall to 5-6 overall, while the Toreros improve to 6-8.
San Diego secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 3 and 6-3 victory at No. 2. Portland's No. 1 tandem of Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez were on serve trailing 4-3 when the point was clinched.
Portland picked up a point at No. 6 singles by default to tie the score at 1-1.
